TV Advert Evaluation
Our chosen
product as a group was sure for men deodorant. We decided on this as the
product to base the TV advert on from my rebranding prezi. As a group we felt
this was the best idea to go with when creating the TV advert. The current
target audience for the product was really anyone, in rebranding the product we
decided to aim this product at a sportier and athletic crowd because the product
seemed to fit that audience.
In rebranding
we felt that we reached the target audience well with the TV advert we filmed. I
feel we made it clear in the advert who our target audience was with the
dialogue and the way we shot the advert. Also we used the slogan “bring out the
inner athlete” which shows clearly who our target audience was at the time.
We feel the
advert was very effective in what we were trying to achieve and who we were
trying to reach out to. The advert was shot in the changing room at college to
give more of a sporty feel to the advert. With this we felt that we were giving
off the right effect to people watching and that it would appeal to the more
athletic viewer.
Being in
such a small space to shoot the advert we did find it difficult to incorporate
a wider range of shot types but we did include as much as we could such as long,
medium and short range shots along with focusing shots and different angles.
In editing
the video, we tried to cut down on the length of the video as it was original
over a minute long. After doing this we focused mainly on continuation in the
video and adding things like text in the video and backing music which we
completed towards the end of the whole process of editing the video.
The idea of
reaching the target audience for us in the advert was mainly to suggest that
this is the best or at least amongst the best products of its kind for what it
is used for. We worked on the storyline and dialogue of the video very early on
before filming.
The message
we are trying to send with the advert is that our target audience should buy
this product as it works better than any other product of its king. The message
is that for our particular target audience, there isn’t a better product on the
market at the moment.
I feel that
the advert has a professional look, achieving this was made a lot easier
because of the equipment used. For this advert we used a high quality microphone
to capture audio in the advert. We used camera stabilising equipment to avoid
shaky shots. In using good quality equipment to film I feel this helped us
massively to achieve a more professional looking advert and an all-round higher
quality end product. The advert is very family friendly and does comply with
the BCAP code.
Upon reflection,
I feel the advert as a final product is very close to how I personally wanted
and expected it to be. The original idea was to aim the product entirely at the
new audience as much as we could with an athletic and sport-style setting. As far
as editing and the overall quality of the audio and video my expectations were
exceeded. I feel a big part of the final product as a whole is having a
professional look and feel to it. Using high quality equipment for the advert was
a huge help to us I feel as we achieved a much more professional looking
advert. Also looking at our preparation for the advert before filming I feel we
did a good job in planning what we were going to do in terms of shot types and dialogue
in the storyboards and production schedule. If I were to redo this task, there isn’t
much I would change. However, I do feel that we could have put more effort into
the setting for the advert as there were some problems we faced with filming in
such a small space where other people were coming in out to use the room also. Another
issue I felt was with the dialogue, we could have added a more detailed
dialogue to the advert. The dialogue in the advert was the area in the production
where I felt we lacked most.
As far as my
own involvement in the production I feel I contributed well in the filming and pre-production
process but I feel that I could have contributed more in the editing process. In
terms of contributing ideas to the production we all contributed well and
discussed many different ideas with each other. As a whole I feel we worked
very well as a team and also worked very efficiently with the time frame we
were given to complete the production.
